circa 1995: Began songwriting at age ~5 and putting on backyard concerts

circa 1997 – 2013: Peformed as a singer at school concerts & events, sings national anthem at multi-schools events etc

2013 – 2017: Self taught guitar & piano, performed original compositions at local festivals, shows, graduations, concerts

2018 – 2012: Studied Architecture & Interior Architecture in WA then Urban Design & Planning and Environmental Policy and Geography in a broad ‘New Gen’ Built & Natural Environment degree at University of Melbourne, scholarships for a regional and lower socio-economic status. Decided to change career path to pursue Music as a career.

2012: Produced/released track ‘Be the Change’

2013: Studied Music Business, Micro-business operations, Successfully crowdfunded $3.5k towards self-funded EP with formative Melbourne-based band “Zoe Ryan & the Dandy Lion”and launched under own label ‘Wireframe Records’ through the NEIS program.

The “Our Patchwork Hearts” project included collaborations with Perths Malcolm Clark (The Sleepy Jackson) and guest vocals from Sam Stopforth (Boykie), as well as the 5 permanent members of ‘The Dandy Lion‘ band and two other musical collaborators (Strings by Judith Hamman and Brass by Will Mischlewski)

late 2013 – 2014: Zoe Ryan & the Dandy Lion performed full capacity launches at moderate sized venues including 250 capacity rooms in Melbourne, including shows with brass and strings players, and received multiple plays on Australian National Broadcaster Triple J. The record also was picked up by multiple community broadcasters around the nation.

In 2014 Zoe experienced a significant and unexpected personal loss shortly after the release of the crowdfunded record. Despite needing to experience grief, Zoe Ryan & the Dandy Lion toured independently from August to October covering South-West WA, New-South Wales, Queensland and Victoria. Then Zoe needed to step back from the project and experience her loss.

2015 – 2016: Zoe worked full time in Business Development (Advertising Sales) & Partnership (Venues, Events, and Independent acts) at Australian Music Media company “The Music solidifying her name and networks in the Australian Music Community, and gaining experience and scope needed to bring back the career momentum she had lost to grief.

November 2015: Performed to her largest crowd, opening for sold-out Evelyn show (400 capacity room) for Kaurna Cronin‘s Album Launch; and received praise from Kaurna’s fans including one request from a new fan that the artist “gets on the big stages…I don’t know what it is, but you’ve got it.

2013 to 2015 Highlights:
* 2013: Successfully independently raised 3.5k via Crowdfunding platform Pozible for debut EP
* 2013: Recorded 6 track EP in Melbourne and Perth including collaborations with Neil Thomason, Malcolm Clark, Boykie and musicians who formed Zoe Ryan & the Dandy Lion
* 2014: Released Our Patchwork Hearts EP and achieved Triply J National airplay on Roots n All and community airplay around Australia through AMRAP’s Airit
* 2014: Independently toured Victoria, Western-Australia, New-South Wales and Queensland
* 2014: Finalist Telstra Road to Discovery, Perth Heat
* 2015: Zoe takes full time role in Business Development at “The Music” (formerly Inpress) Melbourne office
* 2015: Zoe performs for largest crowd to date opening for Kaurna Cronin & receives praise
* 2016: Zoe performs weekly 2 hr front-bar residencies in Melbourne whilst working at “The Music”

2016 – 2018: Zoe leaves “The Music” and Melbourne to travel Australia as a solo troubadour; performing, busking and continuing to learn through observation about our Built and Natural environments, further informing her earlier Scholarly activities creating opportunities on the road, self-booking and networking and community building throughout multiple states and regions
